About Us

So you are probably wondering who we are?

Two blokes who were fed up with receiving vouchers and promotions that didn’t quite deliver what was promised and so decided to do something about that. We initially ran this project in Sheffield to raise funds for Weston Park Cancer Hospital Charity and since my wife is from Derby, decided to do a similar project in Derby to aid 2 local charities, the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre and the Derby Mountain Rescue Team.

DCHCWho are theĀ  Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre?

DCHC is a charity which was established in 1891 to provide disadvantaged Derbyshire children with holidays in Skegness, Lincolnshire. At the present time it provides 450 holiday places per season.

The residential experience provides endless opportunity for contributing to the personal and social development of the children, especially making it clear to them that they are accepted as worthwhile individuals. The development of the children’s self-esteem, attitudes and behaviour can be significant during the period.

Aiming to provide exciting, happy and memorable holidays for the children in a safe and structured environment. The Centre provides attractive and comfortable surroundings for the children which includes the following facilities:

  • Bedrooms of varying sizes
  • Modern bathrooms with shower facilities
  • TV Lounge
  • Art and Craft Room
  • Games Room
  • Large Sports hall / Theatre
  • Laundry room
  • Dining Room with main kitchen
  • Outside Barbecue

Who comes to the Centre?

We accept Derbyshire boys and girls of all backgrounds, race, creed, colour, ethnic or national origin.

Who looks after the children?

The Centre management team is led by two Care Team Leaders who have many years of child care experience. They lead two care teams together with house and domestic staff. The staff take pride in the Centre and the quality of the experience it offers to the children.

Due to the small size of each group, staff members are able to provide a very high level of care, being on hand to provide guidance and reassurance 24 hours a day with the safety of the children being of paramount importance to all members of staff.

DM-LogoAnd last but not least, who are the Derby Mountain Rescue Team?

We are a voluntary emergency service who attend callouts in response to requests from the Police. The team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our main function is the search and rescue of injured walkers or climbers, but our role extends beyond that to other areas where our skills are of use, such as searches for vulnerable people in rural areas. The team are trained for many different types of incidents ranging from crag rescue through to searches for missing people. When a casualty is found, the team will administer first aid if required and then evacuate to a location which can be reached by the ambulance service. Often this can involve a stretcher evacuation.

Our principle area of operations extends from the southern Peak District to as far south as Milton Keynes, but we can also be called to assist teams in other areas when needed. In the past, the team has attended incidents in areas as far afield as Wales and Scotland.
